More about the Ed Lucas Foundation:
The Ed Lucas Foundation for the Blind and Disabled was established as a way to give an assist to others who, like Ed, are blind and/or disabled, encouraging them in pursuing their dreams and establishing their independence, just as Ed was helped as he began his own journey.
Thanks to the support of family, friends, mentors, teachers and others that came into his life to offer support in many different ways at crucial points, Ed persevered, never giving up until his dreams came true. This Foundation is Ed’s way of repaying all of the kindness and generosity shown by those people who were there for him when he needed it most. Ed’s aim is to use the attention and honors that have been sent his way, including “Seeing Home”, to shine a light on others who are facing challenges and obstacles and need that extra boost, just like he did. With your support, The Ed Lucas Foundation, a fully registered 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity, works with other charities to make a difference in their lives and help them to reach their goals, too.
Mission/Purpose: Some examples of how we have helped:
A child was born with congenital hearing problems, requiring treatment, therapy and special needs equipment. His family could not meet the financial burden needed to cover all of the care necessary. The Ed Lucas Foundation helped by using funds sent in by people like you, directing them to the proper organizations to ensure that this infant and his family never have to worry about his health.
A blind high school student was accepted into the college of her choice, but was concerned that she wouldn’t be able to meet the tuition and extra expenses needed to help her adapt to the new campus environment. The Ed Lucas Foundation, which in the past ran a succesful campaign with the New York Yankees and CBS called Strikeouts for Scholarships, was able to help with her costs for attending the college by directly contributing funds to her school, which will aid this girl on her road to success.
A construction worker recently had to retire early because he was in the preliminary stages of a disease that will eventually rob him of his ability to walk. He was worried that he wouldn’t be able to afford the needed additions to his home (ramps, etc.) to help his mobility, and still support his family. The Ed Lucas Foundation channeled the funds necessary to an organization in his area that will help get the job done, bringing some peace of mind to this man and his loved ones as they face the challenges ahead.
These are just three instances of the many times that the Ed Lucas Foundation for the Blind and Disabled has reached out to help others when they need it the most. With your support, we can continue to be there as a light in the darkness.
